Below flows the Mtkvari River (often called Kura), Georgia’s most important waterway that has shaped settlements and trade since ancient times. With our guide, we stroll across the Bridge of Peace, a striking modern landmark of steel and glass, symbolizing Georgia’s new era. We continue into Abanotubani, the sulfur bath district, where hot natural springs have provided relaxation and healing for centuries.
In the afternoon, we drive to Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia and one of the country’s most revered UNESCO World Heritage Sites. On the hilltop we visit Jvari Monastery (6th century), an early Christian masterpiece of cross-dome architecture, overlooking the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers. In the town below, we explore the majestic Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th century), long regarded as the spiritual heart of the Georgian Orthodox Church, believed to enshrine Christ’s robe.

After breakfast, we set off with our guide for a full-day excursion into Kakheti, the region known as the birthplace of wine and cradle of Georgia’s ancient winemaking tradition. This fertile land is home to the Alazani Valley, where vineyards stretch for miles against the backdrop of the snow-capped Caucasus Mountains.
Together with the guide, we visit Bodbe Monastery (9th century), one of Georgia’s most sacred places, linked to St. Nino, the enlightener of Georgia. We continue to Sighnaghi, the “City of Love,” a small hilltop town encircled by defensive walls, known for its pastel houses and panoramic views over the valley.
At Khareba Winery, our guide leads us into vast underground tunnels carved into the rock, where the cool stone walls preserve thousands of bottles. We enjoy a wine tasting of local vintages and join a masterclass in preparing khinkali, Georgia’s iconic dumplings.
