Description

Your day begins with a private pick-up from your accommodation in Mestia, followed by a scenic one-hour drive to the quaint village of Mazeri in the Becho community. Nestled at the foot of the magnificent Ushba mountain, Becho lies in the serene Dolra River valley. Ushba, often shrouded in legend, is said to be home to the goddess of hunting, Dali, who lived among its rugged slopes. The trek kicks off at the traveler’s café in Shikhra valley, situated at 1600 meters (5249 feet) above sea level. The initial part of the hike is an easy stroll through a dense forest, leading up to a border police post near a bridge over the Dolra River. This section can also be traversed on horseback for an added touch of adventure. Beyond the police post, the trail becomes suitable only for hiking, and from here, it's a 1.5 km (0.93 miles) journey to the stunning Shdugra Waterfall, reaching a maximum altitude of approximately 2200 meters (7200 feet). After soaking in the beauty of the waterfall, enjoy a picnic lunch with a scenic mountain view, a perfect spot to relax and refuel. For those seeking further adventure, the trail continues towards the Ushba glacier. This part of the trek is notably more challenging, with an elevation gain of over 500 meters (1640 feet) on a steep, rocky path, offering spectacular vistas of Ushba, Shkhelda, Mazeri, and the Svaneti range. This section is recommended only in good weather due to safety concerns. The entire trek to the waterfall and back is around 10 km (6.2 miles), but if you include the glacier, the distance extends to approximately 18 km (11.2 miles) with a significant elevation gain. The best time for this day tour is from May to October, ensuring you experience the natural beauty of Georgia at its finest. After a day filled with unforgettable sights and adventures, you will be driven back to Mestia, concluding your private tour with a convenient drop-off at your accommodation.
