The unique plant-life, breath-taking views, and the mystical charm of the region's villages and cultural sites create an ethereal ambience akin to stepping into a fairytale.
The distinguishing aspect of the Sasvano Lakes is their breathtaking beauty coupled with their intriguing topography. One of the lakes strikingly takes the shape of a heart, making it an irresistible attraction for lovers. The adventure-spirited will find the banks of these lakes particularly alluring, covered in old snow, even in summer, and offering an opportunity to ski from the mountain directly to the lake. With abundant viewpoints in the area, the Sasvano Lakes provide awe-inspiring landscapes that never fail to mesmerize.
To embark on this enchanting journey, one can start at Tevshero Village in the Oni region. From the village, the lakes are a short four kilometers (about 2.5 miles) away, with the route traversing through the Rioni River Valley. At the intersection where Lukhumi Creek crosses the Rioni, you would take a left turn. Hikers often set up camps by the lakes, making their way up to the Vatsitsveri Pass to witness the splendor of the Enera Glacier and the source of the Rioni River.
From the marked and well-trodden trail that starts from the nearly abandoned village Zeskho, to the border guard post located 3km (about 1.9 miles) beyond, the entire distance spanning about 35km (about 21.7 miles) is a journey of wonder and exploration.
