Your adventure begins with a convenient private pick-up from your accommodation in Stepantsminda. After meeting your guide, you’ll be transferred to the starting point at the historic Gergeti Trinity Church, located at an elevation of 2200 meters (7,218 feet). Following a short briefing, you'll embark on a thrilling hike through stunning alpine terrain.
The trail to Altihut spans over 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) and involves an ascent of 800 meters (2,625 feet). As you make your way up, you’ll be rewarded with awe-inspiring views and a sense of peace only found in nature’s untouched beauty. Upon reaching Altihut, located at 3014 meters (9,888 feet), take a moment to rest and enjoy a delicious lunch prepared with the finest local ingredients.
Altihut is a marvel of modern craftsmanship and eco-friendly design. Built in Wil (Davos), Switzerland, by Stefan Muller, his team, and Kurt Wandfluh (the Wizzard), it was transported to Georgia in parts and assembled with the assistance of the renowned pilot Franz Cotting. Altihut stands as the most eco-friendly building in the Caucasus, capable of comfortably hosting over 40 guests.
Post-lunch, the day is yours to unwind. Bask in the panoramic views of Mount Kazbegi and Mount Kuro from the comfort of the Altihut veranda, or immerse yourself in a good book in Europe’s highest library. For the more adventurous, a guided tour to the nearby Glacier, reaching elevations of approximately 3200 meters (10,499 feet), is available.
After an enriching day filled with nature’s splendor and unique experiences, you’ll trek back to Gergeti village alongside your guide, where a private vehicle will be waiting to take you back to Stepantsminda.
