After breakfast, we explore the magnificent Vardzia cave monastery, a masterpiece from the 12th-century Georgian Golden Age. Carved into the cliffs above the Mtkvari River, this monastic complex spans thirteen levels and is a labyrinth of echoing corridors connecting dwellings, storages, refectories, wine cellars, and 15 churches. The well-preserved fresco of Queen Tamar — the first woman to rule as king — and her father adds a unique historical touch to your visit.
Continuing our travel along the picturesque Kura River Gorge, we journey through a region dotted with medieval fortresses. Witness Vanis Kvabebi and Zemo Vardzia — the most secluded strongholds; Tmogvi — the largest; Khertvisi — the best-preserved; Atskhuri — the smallest; and finally Rabati Castle in Akhaltsikhe—a harmonious blend of history and contemporary life. At Rabati, explore the castle complex featuring an amphitheater, churches, watchtowers, a museum, and a mosque.
Leaving Akhaltsikhe behind, we head to the renowned spa resort of Borjomi. Here, a leisurely walk through Borjomi Central Park awaits, where you can taste the famous mineral waters bubbling straight from hot springs — these are the very waters bottled and enjoyed worldwide. Overnight stay in Borjomi.
